This is a lovely little painting by Anabella Roupell framed in a truly beautiful gilded frame.
The artist, Anabella Roupell [née Pigott], Arabella Elizabeth (1817–1914) has painted a copy of a stipple engraving, created in 1792 by the artist Charles Knight . The original is an etching of Rachel Lady Russell, 1636 - 1723. Wife of Baron William Russell, the patriot; daughter of the 4th Earl of Southampton. The original etching now lives in the Scottish National Gallery.
Apparently Pigott was known to paint copies of existing paintings to hone her skills.
