Original Antique Drawing | Italian Opera Costume
I purchased a collection of these drawings from a collector in Verona, Italy. They were attributed to the Italian costume designer, Gianni Vagnetti, but once I began to research Vagnetti’s other works, it led to me think that they were more likely drawn by Filippo Peroni.
An original drawing on artists paper executed in watercolour, pencil and ink, c. 1,857. The gorgeous hues of persimmon, duck egg blue, black and gold are combined to great effect. My favourite part is the young woman’s expression, although her pose is so charming too. A portion of the notes written by the artist are to be seen in the bottom right hand corner.
Dimensions: 9” w x 11” h, framed 4 3/4” w x 6 5/8” h, image size
